It’s that time of year again! Christmas carols all around. Normally I’m not really one to listen to Christmas tracks, but being Eurobeat, they’re bound to be good!
Oh, and I’m one year late since it’s from 2007, but who takes count ;-)
If you’re not familiar with Super Eurobeat, get familiar with it! To make it easy, it ‘s fast, happy and upbeat music, derived from europop / italia disco.
I’ve been a fan of the Super Eurobeat series for a long time (collecting all albums, 192 up till now (dec ‘08)) and had to get my hands on the 2007 X’mas album too. Would Eurobeat succeed where other singers failed by getting Christmas music into my living room and car?
The album kicks off with a cover of Jingle Bells, which on itself is pretty nicely done, though the overuse of the chorus does get tedious after some time. Second in line is a song called Merry Christmas of which I’m not sure if it’s a cover or not. It is kind of bland though, so I feared the album would be a let down.
Looking at the upcoming tracks, my hopes were getting up, though! Virginelle, Ace, Cherry, Dave Rodgers, they all had to come! And Virginelle was up first at track number three. And boy, did she nail it. Exactly the way Eurobeat Christmas should be! Fast paced, happy lyrics and a catchy tune :-D
Ace puts up a decent performance, but his solo is somewhat weak when compared to his track later on with the “Blue bell girls and child choir”, which kicks ass! Cherry follows with another catchy and fun song, followed by the “All stars” of the TIME and A-Beat C, who made four excellent tracks together on the album. Dave Rodgers shines with his cover of All I want for Christmas is you.
Unknown to me were Samanta Claus (must be some alias) and 7th Heaven. Samanta Claus’ track is on par with Virginelle and ups the quality even more! The album closes with 7th Heaven and their cover of Wham!‘s Last Christmas. Even though I was fed up with the original, this one can still please me somewhat ;-)
Overall I must say the album is of great quality and a superb addition to every Eurobeat fan’s Christmas season!
